Gonorrhea (STD)

http://infertilityhospital.blogspot.com/

What is caused by the gonococcus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacterium with a predilection for the type of the mucous membranes of the genito-urinary and adjacent areas. All gonococcal infections except eye infections in newborns (ophthalmia), some cases of vulvovaginitis girls living in institutions, and sometimes eye infections in adults are accidentally transmitted by direct sexual contact.

Gonorrhea is common, after it has been known for centuries by the slang term "the coup". It is worldwide in distribution, though the effect is not exactly known for personal care, undiagnosed cases, and reports defective. In the U.S., for example, less than half a million cases are reported each year, but this figure may reflect only 50 percent of actual cases.

Occasional increases were observed since the mid-1990s, which were attributed partly to the growing resistance of N. gonorrhoeae to penicillin. Mortality due to gonorrhea is negligible, but its indirect effects on the population with no small frequent sterilization of both sexes are incalculable.

The incubation period of gonorrhea is usually 3-5 days (range 2-10 days). Early symptoms in humans are burning during urination and a purulent urethral may be abundant or may be so low as to go unnoticed. In absentia treatment, the infection spreads usually a deeper involvement of the urethra than the bladder neck and prostate.

The urgency and frequency of urination and sometimes blood in the urine may follow. Spontaneous recovery can occur in a few months to a year. Particularly among gay and bisexual men, gonorrhea may occur with rectal pain in the peri-anal and a layer of mucus in the stool.

The first symptoms in women, in most cases, as mild as to pass unnoticed. mild burning vaginal discharge may occur. The disease is often not suspected by the patient or the doctor until complications arise or a sexual partner is infected. Abscess of a vulvovaginal (Bartholin) gland rarely occurs as a complication early.

Many women recover spontaneously from infection with gonorrhea extending beyond the cervix (Boca uterus). In many cases, however, the infection spreads from the uterus in the fallopian tubes and ovaries, a condition known as disease pelvic inflammatory disease. Fever usually accompanies this extension, and pain lower abdomen is a prominent symptom. pelvic abscess or peritonitis can result.

The symptoms can be confused with appendicitis. Healing occurs without recourse to surgery in most cases, often with physical disabilities and sterility. Infection among girls Immature is generally limited in the vagina.

N. gonorrhoeae may sometimes enter the bloodstream, causing infection Disseminated gonococcal (DGI) in virtually any organ or system. In both men and women, Arthritis is the most common manifestation of DGI. The process usually settles in one or two joints and can cause permanent disability, without treatment. The involvement of tendon sheaths in the region of the affected joint is not uncommon. , Very rare complications of gonorrhea are iritis Other (Inflammation of the iris), endocarditis, meningitis and skin lesions.

Diagnosis is made by culturing a sample of urine or secretions. Penicillin remains the antibiotic tetracycline or normally used in the treatment, an injection is usually sufficient to cure uncomplicated gonorrhea. gonococcal strains that are resistant to penicillin or tetracycline are increasing, however, and spectinomycin or cefoxitin are increasingly used as alternative drugs in eliminating these bacteria.

The administration of small quantities of penicillin and other enough antibiotics to treat gonorrhea may mask the early manifestations of coexisting syphilis and delay diagnosis. A part of the treatment of gonorrhea, serological monitoring is called a blood test for syphilis at least once a month during four months.
