Bone cancer â € "Information on bone cancer

Cancer of bone from the bone â € "primary bone cancer â € "is rare. Less than 2,500 Americans are diagnosed with this cancer each year. It affects more children than adults. Bone cancer is a malignant (cancerous) bone tumor that destroys normal bone tissue (1). Not all bone tumors are malignant. In fact, benign (not cancerous) tumors bone are more common than malignant tumors. Both benign bone tumors and malignant tumors may grow and compress healthy bone tissue, but benign does not spread, do not destroy the bone tissue, and are rarely fatal.

Most times when a person is told they have cancer, bone cancer, the doctor speaks with a cancer that has spread from there to elsewhere. This is called metastatic cancer and may be seen in patients with breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and several others. When these types of cancer in bone is examined under a microscope resemble tissue of origin. If someone has lung cancer spread to bone, the cells look and act like cancer cells lung cancer, not to cells of bone cancer, even after they have spread from the lungs to the bones. They are treated with the same type of treatment (drugs chemotherapy, for example) that is used for lung cancer.

The malignant tumors that begin in the bone is called primary bone cancer. A cancer metastasis (spread) to bones in other parts of the body, such as breast, lung or prostate cancer is called metastatic cancer, and is appointed by the organ or tissue in which it began. Primary bone cancer is much less common than cancer that spreads to the bone.

Bone cancer: Cancer Primary bone cancer is cancer that forms in bone cells. Some types of primary bone cancer are osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, the histiocytoma malignant chondrosarcoma. Secondary bone cancer is cancer that spreads to bone from another part of the body (such as prostate, breast or lung). Most common types of primary bone tumors are osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma, which are more frequently diagnosed in children and young adults.

The first symptom of bone cancer is usually pain or tenderness near the cancer. Bone pain is caused by stretching periosteum (thick membrane covering the bone) cancer, or by stimulating nerves inside the bone. Bone pain can be difficult to distinguish from back pain during or arthritis. Usually the pain due to bone metastasis is fairly constant, even at night. It May be worse in different positions like standing, which would reduce the cancer in a bone support weight. If pain persists beyond a week or two, there seems to be, and unlike other analgesics that may have been experienced, should be evaluated by a doctor.

Bone cancer is caused by a problem with the cells that produce bone. More than 2,000 people are diagnosed in the United States each year with a bone tumor. Bone tumors occur more frequently in children and adolescents are less frequent among older adults. Cancer that affects bone in elderly adults is most often the result of metastatic spread of tumor.
