What is a normal PSA reading after a prostatectomy?
I heard that the normal is 0.00 after prostatectomy. And if the growing number, there is still a cancer in the body. My husband is of 0.30 was 6 years this coming July, he had retired from the prostate and has increased both. Is this considered aggressive?
Since the tissues of the prostate is the only source of PSA, the post-prostatectomy levels should be near zero. However, there is some noise "in the test and the result may not be exactly zero. The most important thing to watch is not the level, but the trend. You have given no previous test result. If the PSA is rising trend over time, then it is a source of concern, and some treatments may be more appropriate – I will not go into details of what treatment might be chosen because I know nothing the age of your husband or condition, or if the tumor had spread through the capsule of the prostate before surgery.
