New Drug Offer Hope To Patients With Late Stage prostate cancer
At present, metastatic and hormonal-refractory prostate cancer patients who have failed 1st line chemotherapy will be given mitoxantrone plus prednisone as the salvage therapy. However, mitoxantrone plus prednisone is not very effective in controlling metastatic prostate cancer. Now, a new drug developed by sanofi-aventis might offer hope to patients who have failed 1st line chemotherapy (docetaxel plus prednisone).
The new drug called cabazitaxel was investigated in the TROPIC trial that included 755 advanced prostate cancer patients who have failed 1st line docetaxel chemotherapy. Half of the patients in the trial received combination of cabazitaxel and prednisone while the other half received mitoxantrone and prednisone.
After one year of treatment, men in the cabazitaxel arm had an overall median survival of 15.1 months, compared to 12.7 months among men in the mitoxantrone arm. Patients who received the combination treatment with cabazitaxel also experienced a significant increase in median progression-free survival, 2.8 months vs. 1.4 months. Note that cabazitaxel was also associated with a 30 percent reduced risk of dying.
Like other chemotherapies, cabazitaxel was associated with side-effects such as low white blood cells (81.7%), low white blood cells with fever (7.5%), diarrhea (6.2%) and infections (10.2%).
This drug has not been approved by FDA, but is under the fast track approval process - process designed to expedite the review of drugs being developed for serious diseases with the potential to address an unmet medical need. Male Masturbation…for Christian Men only?
ok, i am christian, and i kind of have resolved that masturbation is wrong. Not because it says so in the bible, because the only scrpture that could even be percieved as masturbation is the onan situation, which i have researched is not. plus, wet dreams seem to be the outlet to get “empty”.Also, i masturbating can really only masturbate to porn (which i know is horrible, detestable, and wrong very wrong in the sight of God, and am working on that) and when i try not to i just cant get turned on without visualing something immoral or watching porn. I am very religius and love God very much, but i just feel so full right now and cannot get a wet dream and am running out of time. ive prayed about it and hopefully one of your answers can be the answer to them. My question is how to stop masturbation (if there is a way) without sexual immorallity…thanks alot!
oh by the way i am 17, so sex isnt a option
and the prostate cancer without ejaculation thing scares me…=/
A youth asked: “Is masturbation an unforgivable sin?” Masturbation is not mentioned at all in the Bible. The practice was common in the Greek-speaking world during Bible times, and several Greek words were used to describe the practice. But not one of these words is used in the Bible.
Since masturbation is not directly condemned in the Bible, does this mean it is harmless? Absolutely not! Though it is not classed with such gross sins as fornication, masturbation is surely an unclean habit.
Even those not especially concerned with God’s viewpoint feel uneasy about the practice. For instance, “The majority of adolescents who masturbated reported feeling guilty, ashamed, dirty, stupid, embarrassed, or abnormal.” Surely, masturbation is an unclean habit. But since “uncleanness,” according to the Bible, is a term that allows for a wide range of degree of seriousness, masturbation is not to be classed with such serious sins as fornication or other types of gross sexual immorality. Ephesians 4:19.
The Scriptures counsel: “Deaden, therefore, your body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness.” (Colossians 3:5) Is one who practices masturbation ‘deadening his body members as respects sexual appetite’? On the contrary, he is stimulating the sexual appetite. The Bible urges that one avoid the thinking and conduct that lead to such problems, replacing them with wholesome activity, and that one cultivate self-control. When earnest effort is put forth to do this, such self-abuse can be avoided, with benefits mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Masturbation also instills certain attitudes that are mentally corrupting. When masturbating, a person is immersed in his or her own bodily sensations, totally self-centered. Sex becomes separated from love and is relegated to a reflex that releases tension. But God intended that sexual desires be satisfied in sexual relations, an expression of love between a man and his wife. .
