Definition:
Benign prostate is swelling of the prostate gland. The prostate is a gland the size of the nut which is present only in men. It is just below bladder and the top of the penis. This gland surrounds the urethra (the tube through which urine flows from the bladder through the penis).

The anatomical position of the prostate is described in ayurvedic classics follows
In Yogaratnakara has been described as —
"NAABHERADHASTHAATSANJAATAHA SANCHAARI Yadi VAACHALAHA |
ASHTEELAAVAD GHANA GRANTHIROODHWAR MAAYATA UNNATAHA | | "
Which means "the navel down (NAABHI), it is a hard gland which is little bit swollen and change places sometimes and sometimes it is stopped. This gland is like "Ashteela" (a small stone used to sharpen swords). This gland when affected by vitiated vata causes a disease called vataashteela "(or benign prostate)
Sushruta explains the structure, anatomical position of the gland prostate and symptoms of BPH as follows.
"SHACRANMAARGASYA BASTHESHCHA VAAYURANTARAMAASHRITAHAI
ASHTEELAAVADGHANAM GRANTHIMMOORDHVAMAAYATA MUNNATAM | | "
Which means – the place between rectum and bladder is occupied by vitiated vata affecting the flow of urine, faeces sperm or expansion of "Ashteela gland.
Prostate enlarges in all men with age. BPH is very common, affecting one third of men who are over 50. A person suffering from BPH does not have the highest risk of prostate cancer.
Functions of the Prostate
One of the main functions of the prostate is to produce a liquid, which contribute to the liquid part of semen and this liquid allows the sperm to move freely.
The gland is divided into peripheral, transitional and central. The proliferation takes place in the central zone which leads to BPH.
Effects of BPH prostate surrounds the urethra. When the prostate enlarges, the urethra narrows, reducing the flow of urine. The emptying of bladder becomes very difficult because of this.

The growing pains of the rectum?
In recent years, these increases have random pain, cramping, gas-like around my prostate and rectum. No blood in question, only the pain and burning for a few seconds. Is a sign of something?
I used to have abdominal cramps, and no one could understand what was the cause. Over time I realized it myself that dehydration was not drinking enough water. Alternatively, you might have a prostate problem. You may have an infection of the prostate (the most likely a venereal disease), or you may have a prostate cancer, especially if you are over 40. Try drinking more water, and if the pain persists, consult a urologist.
