Over 70% of prostate cancers diagnosed in men over 65 years

Over 70% of prostate cancers diagnosed among men aged 65 years old, and most other cases are men over 50 years, but can sometimes occur even in very young men. Prostate cancer is usually a relatively slow-growing cancer, especially among older men, so many men with prostate cancer end up dying from a cause unrelated to the other before the cancer causes any serious injury.

It is unclear as to what causes cancer prostate behind. It is known that cells in the prostate gland function under the control of male sex hormones like testosterone and the development of prostate cancer may be hormonal. There is also evidence to suggest that genetics and diet both play a role in the risk of developing cancer.

In its early stages, prostate cancer often has no visible symptoms. It is therefore necessary that all men aged over 50 to receive a regular prostate specific antigen (PSA), which can detect early cancer. If detected at an early stage, chances of recovery from prostate cancer are very good relations with the treatments available today.
