Can you get cured from prostate cancer?

My father is turning 81 years old next month, has stage 3 prostate cancer and been diagnosed for about 2 years or so. His psa level is currently 0.33. Couple of months ago, when it was a 7, his prostate cancer spread into the lymph nodes according to his doctors. He is now going to be on a 1-1/2 year hormone therapy. He has tried other treatments and according to his doctors, hormone therapy will be his only treatment from here on. After this 1-1/2 yr treatment he is hoping to be cured and be no longer on the treatment.

Question: With the hormone treatment, can he be cured from his prostate cancer stage 3? Or can he be stop from the treatment and just do normal psa readings?

I’m somewhat nervous that from this hormone treatment for such a long time, he can experience one of the side affects, which is a high risk of heart attack. He currently experiences other side affects, but I’m just worried about this heart attack risk.

Hormone therapy is not intended to nor does it cure prostate cancer. It is to try to keep it from spreading further for as long as possible. He should still be having regular PSAs.
