Treatment options for prostate cancer

To prevent prostate cancer, scientists are trying to find the abnormal genes are associated with this disease, and identify those at risk of developing prostate cancer.
For treatment of such persons must also be created before to prevent the disease from occurring.

Today, scientists use DNA micro-technology array to study many genes simultaneously and identifying those that are associated with prostate cancer. This selection can save considerable time and could replace the PSA test currently used in the blood.

DNA microarrays identified a product of a gene (called EZH2) that seems to occur more frequently in prostate cancers than in advanced stages of cancer early. Scientists want to determine if this gene product indicates if the cancer is aggressive or not. This could help doctors decide if this form of cancer treatment needs or should be followed closely.

The researchers found that tomatoes and soybeans contain substances that are useful in preventing prostate cancer (lycopene and isoflavones). Vitamins are also useful: Vitamin D, E and selenium reduced the risk of prostate cancer.

A new clinical trial has been developed to to see whether patients with prostate cancer respond to drugs that decrease the level of the hormone androgen DHT. These drugs (finasteride and dutasteride) have been used so far only for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Staging of prostate cancer is very important for clinicians because it helps institute appropriate treatment. CT and MRI are not as effective in this case. Rather, MRI is more useful because it detects any cancerous cells in the lymph nodes.

As a treatment option is surgery. Radical prostatectomy in May some risks. If the nerves that control erection should be removed from the end of man is impotent. Doctors are testing a replacement nerves with sural nerve, but are not positive about the usefulness of this technique.

The Radiotherapy is also possible. If the use of conformal radiotherapy (CRT) and conformal radiotherapy with modulated intensity (IMRT) radiation to be directed at the prostate gland and affect less than other normal tissues.

Chemotherapy appears to be effective in prostate cancer as well. Chemotherapy drugs can be used successfully in combination with other drugs such as Taxotere associated with calcitriol, a form of vitamin D.

The vaccine has also been tested with surprising results on patients with prostate cancer. This vaccine is not like others that are designed to prevent disease. This is done to treat advanced cancer of the prostate by increasing the immune response cancer cells. The vaccine has been genetically modified protein, dendritic cells always the patient's bloodstream. Three doses of vaccine (Provenge) were carried out under a month. The immune system will react and activate T cells of the immune system to find and destroy cancer cells.

Treatment with monoclonal antibodies also be applied in this case. They stimulate the cell's natural body kill or mechanisms that lead to a radioactive molecule that destroy cancer cells.

Another treatment with inhibitors of angiogenesis. These drugs block the growth of blood vessels and thus tumor cells not fed more.

Sometimes cancer prostate cancer spreads through the body and affects the bones. To stop the bone pain doctors use radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and CT. with this technique is to destroy the tumor by heating it.

For patients who are recovering is recommended to adopt a lifestyle. You should not eat meat fish, eggs or dairy products, maintain an active lifestyle and even doing yoga.
