Uroxatral is a type of prescribed drug manufactured and distribute by Sanofi-Aventis, used for the treatment of prostate-related problems such as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, and non-infectious prostate enlargement. This drug works by helping the prostate and urethra muscles to relax. This medication comes in a small 10 milligram tablet and is usually taken once daily 30 minutes after a meal. Potential side effects of this drug includes headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

Uroxatral or alfuzosin hydrochloride is a prescribed drug approved by most doctors in treating the symptoms of prostate enlargement, it may be infectious, non-infectious or a hormonal imbalance source.

This drug belongs to a class of drugs called Alpha Blockers. In particular, these drugs work by blocking the alpha-1 receptors. These alpha-1 receptors are commonly found in most places in the body which includes the prostate gland.

When used for the management of prostate enlargement, alpha blockers help the muscles of the prostate as well as the bladder neck to relax thus relieving the accompanying signs and symptoms. This drug does not necessarily shrink the prostate gland, as like other prostate enlargement medications do. However, by relaxing the said muscles, this drug is able to quickly remove the symptoms. Indeed, it is not a primary cure for prostate enlargement.

Uroxatral is continuously studied and evaluated until now by several clinical studies. Most of these studies had showed that this drug can decrease the symptoms of prostate-related problems such as weak urine stream and frequent urination. It also helps to increase the rate flow of urine.

Uroxathal is available in a form of an extended release pill. Make sure to take the medication in a prescribed dosage and at the same time every day, but remember not to take it on an empty stomach.  You must swallow the tablets whole. Breaking, cutting or chewing the tablet will release to much of the medication which will give unwanted side effects. For it to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Best results is seen after 2 to 4 weeks of taking this medication.

Just like any drug, Uroxatral may cause a series of unwanted side effects. However, not everyone who take this medication will able to experience those side effects. In fact, a large percentage of men who took this drug had tolerated it quite well. if any side effects occur, in most cases they are just minor and doesn’t  require any treatment. The most common side effects include dizziness, common colds or other upper respiratory tract infection, fatigue, headaches. Impotence may happen, but in very rare cases.
