A former drug offers a new treatment for prostate cancer

A lifelong treatment for common diseases of the prostate, and as baldness can be treated to help prevent prostate cancer in people at high risk, the recent review of a 2003 sample study. (N Engl J Med 2003, 349:1569-1572, October 16, 2003)

The study was one of the largest of its kind, conducted in nearly 19,000 men in 7. The men were assigned to randomized placebo or a popular drug called finasteride, which is marked as Propecia to treat baldness and is also used to treat prostate glands in older men.

After 7 years, men who took finasteride showed a 25% less to develop prostate tumors than the placebo group. However, researchers were initially concerned about the impact higher real aggressive cancer of the prostate in men taking finasteride, their overall risk was small, but if they developed cancer of the prostate tends to be more dangerous.

A reassessment of this study seems to have reconciled this bizarre result. Because finasteride reduced the prostate in fact, if the cancer appears to be easier to find and, therefore, in the original study suggest a increase in tumors in some men.

New research finds that finasteride is indeed an excellent treatment for people at high risk of prostate cancer. Men who are in a class of high risk of prostate cancer include those over 50 years and those with a close relative with prostate cancer.

Men who are interested in treatment by finasteride should take your concerns with your doctor, who will make a personal decision based on their risk factors. This treatment can help prevent complications such as impotence and urinary incontinence, two side effects most common treatments later, such as surgery and radiotherapy.

This can be a boon for high risk, such as quality of life concerns of treatment can actually affect men more than the cancer itself.

Why there is a great movement of prostate cancer, consciousness which exists for breast cancer?

I ask, taking into account cancer prostate cancer is more common than breast cancer. Good God. No complaints. I wonder why nobody. Gwennie B, a stereotpye. Believe it or not, most men are capable of being mature adults. I'm afraid, but his mentality is childish men. It's okay, Gwennie.

Usually no more about the diseases that affect women today, in part because women diseases (breast cancer affects men, but not very often, just what could really be considered a disease of sex), not always given the same treatment as the disease of men for years. Now, we went current contrary in these things. I believe, however, that if someone started the movement would take off, assuming they knew what they did and had money, what not all. Everything you really need is someone like Lance Armstrong of testicular cancer, but Armstrong used his yellow ribbons to promote all cancers. Here, I think, if there is no problem, we would be in it. But generally, I think that would be adopted.
